With the country’s general elections less than a month away, we again face the uncertainty of who will lead key ministerial portfolios – assuming (safely, I suppose) that the ANC once again comes out on top.

When it comes to the telecoms industry in South Africa, it seems that the consumer will always get the bum deal. And it’s pretty obvious that those few who dominate the market have no intention of allowing this to change.

Lately, much is being made of local political parties’ increasing use of technology and their engagement with voters via social media platforms. This hype tends to pick up momentum when elections loom, and tech journos seem to try and make much of this supposed digital evolution that we are seeing in politicking.

As the saying goes, the best defence is a good offence. Well, the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) seems to have quite firmly embraced this adage, as it fired its latest volley at ITWeb last week.

I was recently surprised to read an article that, based on the latest sales figures from Apple, questioned whether we are finally seeing the death of the iPod.
