Distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC) has appointed Francois van Wijk as its new Hewlett Packard Personal Systems Group (PSG) business unit manager. Van Wijk, who was previously based at DCC’s Cape Town office as sales manager, will be responsible for managing the HP notebook and desktop product offering. Van Wijk joined DCC in 2005 as the HP printer & consumables product manager.
Sharp Middle East is this month celebrating its 40th birthday. The anniversary comes in Sharp’s centennial year, and further celebrations are planned in the Middle East in September when Sharp officially marks its 100th birthday. Last year Sharp established a representative office in SA, and the company says South Africa is the prime focus territory for Sharp in the Middle East and Africa region in 2012.

IT distributor AxizWorkgroup recently launched a Winter Warmer campaign to benefit Mug and Tree, a beneficiary of Angel Mission – one of AxizWorkgroup’s supported charities for the year. AxizWorkgroup launched the Winter Warmer initiative in June, and the official handover of the donations to Mug and Tree was made at the end of July at AxizWorkgroup’s offices.
According to Terence Barter, Dell product manager at Tarsus Technologies, the technology refresh cycle is killing the need for upgradeable desktop PCs. “It makes more sense to replace one’s computer every two years than it does to spend money on extending its lifespan,” he says. Barter says consumers are comfortable with being limited to hard disk and memory upgrades when buying a notebook or desktop today.

Bidvest company Konica Minolta South Africa has announced the upcoming availability of its new colour multifunctional products (MFPs), the bizhub C654/C754 series. The new series focuses on usability in every respect and sets new standards in individual user convenience and customisation. The new office printers feature Konica Minolta’s INFO-Palette design, a touch screen interface. The products also a broad range of smart applications and software.
Kaseya South Africa has announced the appointment of Bytes Managed Solutions (MS) as a Kaseya value added reseller (VAR). Bytes MS is the second of three managed service providers to be appointed as a local Kaseya VAR during the first phase of the company’s new programme. “We are very excited about the roll-out of our partner programme as it gives us a greater ability to reach the local public and private sector through our new strategic VARs,” says Garth Hayward, regional manager for Kaseya Africa.
