Acer Aspire S5
Rectron has announced it will be selling the new Acer Aspire S5 exclusively in the local market. The world’s thinnest Ultrabook, it measures 11mm at its thinnest point and weighs 1.2kg. The Aspire S5 is Acer’s first product in South Africa to ship with AcerCloud.
The First Technology Group has been acknowledged by Microsoft South Africa as its 2012 reseller with the largest market share in South Africa. The services provided by First Technology as a Microsoft Large Account Reseller now include, among others, licence life cycle management, comprehensive software asset management, licensing aggregation, audits, remediation and consolidation.
Johan Basson, Bytes Document Solutions
Bytes Technology Group has announced the appointment of Johan Basson as the new CEO of Bytes Document Solutions (BDS) with immediate effect. In his new position, Basson will be expected to actively drive the transition of BDS from a product to a servicesled business.
Digital distributor Esquire Technologies has announced it is to launch an entry-level tablet PC for children, which is expected to retail for under R1 500. According to Asgar Mahomed, MD of Esquire Technologies, the decision comes after requests from resellers – and after the successful launch of its own Geeko range of tablet PCs in June this year. Mahomed said the Geeko Kids tablet is due for release by the fourth quarter of 2012.

Fraxion, developer of spend management solutions, is actively recruiting resellers and channel partners to augment their current portfolio with Fraxion’s solution. Fraxion CEO Stanton Jandrell says: ”We are actively recruiting and certifying partners, especially those currently providing support for mid-tier accounting packages, such as Pastel and Sage Accpac, to enable them to recommend and implement Fraxion spend management solutions.”
