Research house Gartner kicked off its symposium with a look at to what degree people are connected and how much data travels the Internet every month. Here are a few key global facts and figures:

1. There are 800 million smartphones
2. 1.5 billion PCs
3. Two billion people online
4. 3.5 billion mobile phones
5. Five billion Internet-connected devices
6. 87 billion Google searches every month
7. 28 quintillion exabytes of data travels over the Internet every month
