Sony Mobile Communications has opened a Sony Xperia mobile store at Vodacom World in Johannesburg. The store showcases the company’s latest Xperia Smartphones together with the wide range of Sony products. The store is the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa, it is not confirmed if the company will open another store of this type in SA or Africa.

While the traditional core group of digital banking channel adopters is biased towards male South Africans, statistics from SA’s core banks reveal IT in banking is being taken up by both contingents, virtually equally. SA’s biggest bank by customer number, Absa, says it has seen the “gender gap” in the adoption of digital banking narrowing, according to the Absa Digital Banking unit’s latest analysis of customer behaviour. – ITWeb

The Western Cape Education Department recently opened the Northpine Technical High School. It is one of five technical high schools in the province. The other four are Delft Technical HS, Oude Molen, Belville and Drostdy Technical High School. Each of these schools specialises in technical subjects such as mechanical technology; electrical technology; civil technology; engineering, graphics and design; and mathematics and science, according to the department. – ITWeb

In light of imminent ADSL speed increases by Telkom, local Internet service provider Web Africa has launched an online tool that will allow customers to monitor line speeds and performance – as well as reset ports – without third-party intervention. Web Africa says that, while faster ADSL speeds will yield benefits, consumers may be unaware of the improved service. – ITWeb
