Network security is not enough – organisations need to know how to proactively detect and stop intrusions. This was the message from Steve Armstrong, SANS certified instructor, at ITWeb’s Security Summit.
The summit brought SANS training to South Africa for the first time, as part of the event.
Armstrong noted: “It’s not that organisations have poor technology; the problem is that technology is poorly configured.”
Another problem that organisations face is a lack of employee education regarding
security risks when using the Internet, he said. Armstrong noted that very few staff had attended formal training about
security – and this included administrators.
