Worms affected 42.8% of all computers cleaned. This figure was marginally down from 43.7% in the third quarter of last year. Second most prevalent was miscellaneous and potentially unwanted software, which was found on 30.1% of all computers cleaned, down from 31.2% in 3Q11.

The third most common category in 4Q11 was miscellaneous Trojans, which affected 20.7% of all computers cleaned, down from 20.8% from the preceding quarter.

“While viruses and worms are still a big threat in SA, the general trend is coming down, so we need to look at what we are doing right,” he said.
