Absa information security researcher Frans Lategan said there are vulnerabilities in the cryptography in use for digital currency Bitcoin – SHA256.
Lategan said the vulnerabilities in this gold standard cryptography may be “scratches in the paintwork, rather than a train smash”, but the fact that they exist indicates that vulnerabilities can exist even in trusted algorithms in use to protect currency as valuable and widespread as Bitcoin.
