CA Southern Africa has announced the appointment of Michael P Gregoire as the new CEO of CA Technologies, which was effective from 7 January 2013. Gregoire succeeds the retiring William E McCracken, who has served as CA’s CEO since January 2010. McCracken has also left the CA Technologies board of directors, effective 7 January 2013. Gregoire most recently served as chairman, president and CEO of software company Taleo. – ITWeb

SA’s wealthy Oppenheimer family has invested an undisclosed sum of money into 4Di Capital, doubling its current fund and allowing it to back technology entrepreneurs.

South Africa’s first mobile-only bank called ‘Take Your Money Everywhere’, or Tyme, has officially launched. The mobile-only bank is a distribution channel of the South African Bank of Athens, an authorised financial services and registered credit provider. Mobile operator MTN and retailers Pick n Pay and Boxer are also involved in the venture. The bank’s Web site is http://tyme-capital.net. – ITWeb Africa
The latest census figures released by Statistics SA shows the country has increased PC penetration from less than 10% to 21.4% in the past decade. This figure is expected to increase, despite muted global expectations.

As the number of rhinos poached in 2012 approaches 500, Konica Minolta SA has renewed its support of the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF’s) African Rhino Programme. For every bizhub sold, Konica Minolta makes a contribution to the WWF, which supports RhODIS, the country’s rhino DNA database. – ITWeb
