South African data centre revenues are expected to grow at a rate of 9.6% per year to reach R4 billion in 2016, up from the R2.3 billion reported in 2010. This is according to research by Frost & Sullivan, which outlines a number of factors that have an impact on the growth rate. The research further found that the financial, government and ICT sectors contributed two-thirds of data centre revenues. – ITWeb

Chinese telecoms infrastructure company ZTE is trying to sever ties with its local partner over a legal dispute. ZTE SA CEO Cris Fuentes says the Chinese group, which is a minority shareholder in ZTE Mzanzi, has been forced to terminate its relationship with the local firm. He says the Chinese company has tried several times to reach “an amicable settlement” with ZTE Mzanzi, but has been unsuccessful. – ITWeb
The local IT sector is in for a tough year, as slowing economic growth and a shift to cloud computing are lowering the industry’s expected gain to levels below those internationally.
