The dichotomy of South African society and all its associated quirks never fails to bemuse me. We are very much a Third World country with flashes of First World infrastructure, and ideals.

I recall flying back from Botswana with a colleague once and heading straight into a massive Highveld thunderstorm over OR Tambo and surrounds, forcing us back all the way to first Bez Valley, and then Pretoria (Tshwane).

We, as a country, are in serious trouble. While it’s no secret the standard of education in South Africa has been pitiful for some years now, I really had no idea just how bad it was.
I am continually surprised at the seemingly unshakable belief the market still has in Telkom, which – in my opinion – is a bit misguided. The old dinosaur has finally named a new CEO – Nombulelo “Pinky” Moholi, who most recently held the position of MD of Telkom SA.
